There has been a castle on the premises since 1200.

Make sure you are on your best behavior for a dinner party...because any unwelcome guests can be swiftly taken care of out the front window.

This current castle was added in 1840-1842 by Duke Wilhelm of Urach, a count of Wuerttemburg. He was inspired by the novel, 'Lichtenstein'. He had inherited the land from his uncle who previously used it for a hunting lodge.

Not a place for acrophobics.

On Sunday we traveled not far from Tuebingen to Schloss Lichtenstein, a fairy-tale styled castle built on a huge rock crag. The setting, beauty of the castle, and grounds quickly made this one of my favorites. (I haven't been to the Rhine Valley yet...and Jamie has said that it is castle central).
