Consumer clothing modeling takes the Grand Champion spot!

The girls had a great year at the Boone Country Fair. Although they had just a few projects, they did well and we just love walking around our little 4-H fair and getting some goat loving too.

7.9.2022 Anchorage

 Kincaid Park

We wanted to have a day to explore in Anchorage.  It is the largest city in Alaska with around 290,000 residents.  Black and grizzly bears are sighted regularly along with hundreds of moose in the city.

We rented bikes at the park which is a great park with trails, outdoor sports and wildlife.  It is 1,500 acres and very popular.

The biking path we took was paved and the only steep area was the initial decent and then the uphill climb to get back to the bike rental area at the end. We spotted a few moose grazing and got startled by one on our trip.  You are to hide behind something solid if possible, put your bike in front of you, talk and make your presence known.  They are HUGE!

Moose can be more dangerous than bears.  They outnumber bear 3 to 1 in Alaska and while their behavior isn't necessarily deadlier, you are more likely to have a moose encounter!

We had such a fantastic time seeing Alaska.  Jamie's goal to see 50 states by 50 brought us to so amazing adventures here this week!

7.8.2022 Aleskya and Sled Dog Tour

As we made our way to Anchorage from Seward, we stopped in Girdwood at the Alyeska Resort for a summer sled dog adventure.

We got to meet future Iditarod champions with puppy snuggles.  Our guide was a second generation Iditarod racer and we were able to see his sled, trophies and learn about the race with pictures and memorabilia.  We then got to do an exhilarating "race" around with a team of dogs in a summer sled.

The Iditarod race began in 1973 and is a long distance sled dog race.  The race takes place in March through sometimes treacherous conditions and blizzards from Anchorage to Nome which is about 938 miles.  The mushers have a team of 12 to 14 dogs but at least 5 have to be in line at the finish.

The dogs are mixed breed huskies and are bred for this racing lifestyle.

We made it to Anchorage and explored a bit this evening.
Potter Marsh Boardwalk

This place is known for moose sighting and bird watching.  It is a nice short walk with stunning views of the lake and marsh and mountains in the background.

A short walk down a steep hill you are on a rocky beach at Point Woronzof. Since it is so close to the airport you can see airplanes close overhead departing and arriving too.  It is a beautiful area to take in the sunset.
