10.17.2019 Page, Glen Canyon Recreational Area, Antelope Canyon

We had breakfast at our hotel and then packed up and went to explore the Page area.  Although it doesn't seem to have a lot to offer when you drive to the city as it is a desolate area...there are many things to do which are in close proximity.

We wanted to take a hike in the desert and
took Hanging Garden trail at the recommendation of a local.  There were just 2 cars at the trail head and didn't seem to be much to see until you started hiking on the path.  The views were absolutely stunning...so so different and you felt like you were on another planet altogether!

The path was well marked with stones.  It is an easy and enjoyable hike.
It has beautiful desert views, sandstone cliffs jutting out and a variety of desert plants.

This sandstone is fed by water seeping out of the rock, creating a lush area under.

Just off the trail you take another to the summit which had sweeping vistas of the area.

We got lunch and then drove to the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.  We went to the visitors center which had great information where you can learn a lot about the area and the importance of the dam to many states.   The girls got another junior ranger badge too!  We all agreed it would be fun to take a rafting trip down the Colorado river!
We then drove to area to meet the guides to take us to the Antelope Canyon.  Reservations are a must and these tours sell out months in advance.  We had tickets to the Upper Antelope Canyon and I was very excited to see this in person.

It was very well organized and run by the Navajo Native Americans who own the land.

We went in open trucks and it was about a 15 minute drive to the area that you see here.
The pictures don't do this area justice!  It was really so beautiful.  Our guide helped us find good angles to take pictures, took a few family pictures for us and was so informative!

Can you see the profile of a bear and its outstretched paws?
This is the heart

It was about a hour tour and went very quickly!  This is at the end.  Apparently there are hundreds of these canyons that are carved by years of flooding and water that carve the sandstone.  The guide mentioned that this one in particular happens to be one of the more accessible ones to see.

Heading back to the check-in area!

Was truly a sight to see!

We were running out of daylight and time and unfortunately had to skip the Horseshoe Bend which was a must see on the list.  We find out we can't do it all, and were happy to experience what we did in this area.  We drove the 2 hours back to Sedona to spend the last night in Arizona!
