We had blackout shades to block out the 3 am sunrise! We awoke, had an amazing breakfast at our resort and started off our day driving to the tip of the island to an island, Fårö which is just North off the island of Gotland.
It was an incredibly windy day!
These rock formations are called rank. They are unique to Fårö and Gotland and are from erosion during the Ice Age. The island is actually famously tied to the Swedish filmmaker, Ingmar Bergman who lived and died here and filmed many of his movies here as well.
The kids had such fun running around and exploring.
The seas were very rough and the wind was quite chilly.
This eastern shore of the island was much less windy and more calm and certainly warmer. We also spotted a wild swan which was exciting for Juliette as she studied them as her specialty animal for school.
There was a short, 15 minute ferry to get us back to Gotland.
We explored much of the northern part of the island.
This stone ship or ship setting was an early custom of burial in Scandinavia, Baltic States and Northern Germany. The site of burial was surrounded by stones and slabs in the shape of a ship like the one that Jamie is standing in.
After a long day of driving and exploring we arrived back in Visby and got dressed to go to eat in the city.
The girls loved posing in such beautiful places all over the town.
This picture was taken at nearly 11 pm at night! We love the endless summer days as much as the Swedes do!
Sunset in front of the Baltic Sea!
