Enjoying an evening meal.

Valletta is a fortified city with walls all around. This is Fort St Elmo, built in 1552 by the Knights of St John.

Isabelle gets a good view on top of a wall.

Inside a cathedral in Valletta. Note the crystal chandeliers.

We really were pressed for time on our little get-away. The heat (30 degrees Celcius at 8:30 am), made it pretty uncomfortable for the children and us too. We were all sweating just standing outside in the shade for a minute. The first day we were there we spent touring Valletta and then walked around St. Paul's Bay where our hotel was located. We really wanted to make it to Gozo which is another Maltese island. It has the temples of Ggantija which date back from 3600 B.C.! They are the oldest freestanding stone structures in the world. This makes them older then the pyramids in Egypt by more than 500 years. We unfortunately ran out of time (it feels like the story of our life here in Germany), and so we will have to come again.
