Our last weeks in Tuebingen were full of packing, more packing and then a little more packing, but we were able to wander the city streets, enjoy views from the castle, and spend a few lazy afternoons walking and relaxing. What an adventure it has been and how quickly time goes by, especially at the end. At times, it was a very isolating experience for me, when I knew so few people and knew even less German. It was humbling but gratifying. It really opens your eyes to how "Auslanders" (foreigners) really struggle with not just direction, customs, and beliefs of a country, but how difficult it can be to communicate and just simply get by when you only know a few words. Gesturing helps out alot! As Isabelle was firing off a string of negatives in German...3 different ways..."Nein" (No), "Noi" (No in the Swabian dialect), "Nichts" (Never)...I was finally starting to get by and occasionally have a very gramatically bad conversation in German (on my part). Even little Allie said "Nein" before "No". It was truly an amazing experience. We met some wonderful people and made life-long friends. Tuebingen will always be our "German home". But, we are on to many "new adventures" in Indianapolis and wherever life may take us here on out.
