4.1.2018 Iceland Day 3, Vík í Mýrdal, Jökulsárlón, Diamond Beach, Höfn

We had a couple of cases of crazy bedhead at the Puffin Hotel!

We had our breakfast and packed up to explore some more of southeast Iceland.  We went to Vikurfjara in bluebird skies.

What the tide brought in...

You can see the sea stacks in the distance here...we are on the other side of them this morning.

Getting away from the waves!

The church parking lots offers great village views of Vik.

Vikurkirkja

It was built in the 1930s.

Skaftarhreppur

The Icelandic horses are a hardy bunch well suited for the weather with their thick manes and shaggy coats.   They are also so friendly.

Stunning glaciers in Jökulsárlón.  This is a large glacial lake that keeps growing.  Icebergs calve off the glacier and move toward the river and then eventually to sea.

The blue icebergs are truly a sight to behold!

After exploring the ice we had a coffee and hot chocolate in a nearby cafe.
Icelandic Kronur.  $1.00 USD equals 100 Kronur.  A great place for the kids to work on their decimals during money conversion!  One thing we do know that Iceland is an extremely expensive country!  (but worth it)

Exploring "Diamond Beach".  The melting icebergs wash up to the shore and it looks like a beach of  icy diamonds.

Allie is collecting some diamond sculptures for her little "shop" she constructed.

After the beach we drove to watch giant glaciers crash into each other in the lagoon.  We saw seals swimming in the distance.
