Jamie took a break from his mouse neurosurgery for a micro-neurosurgery course in Vienna, Austria. We tagged along to sight-see and experience this truly amazing city. He had an excellent conference and we had an equally fantastic time touring the palaces, countless museums and cathedrals, and wandering through the streets of this lovely city. The metro system, which included the subways, trams, and buses were so accomodating to disabled persons and strollers. People were so helpful and friendly which made it so much easier with the two little girls. I tried to see as much as possible and Isabelle and Allie seemed to enjoy most of the ride! This is Stephansplatz. Vienna is home to approximately 1.6 million people and the Innere Stadt has alot of the sights.
St. Stephen's Cathedral (Stephansdom).
St Stephen's Cathedral is in a Gothic style. We also visited the crypt underneath the Cathedral complete with many stacked femurs, human skulls and other remains of the hundreds of bodies that were buried there. They did stop the practice of putting human corpses underneath the church floors a few hundred years ago, due to complaints of the stench of rotting bodies and the fact that people stopped coming to church services.
