Rome! The Roman Forum, Colosseum

Much to our dismay, our flight from Indianapolis to Dallas was delayed multiple times for a "mechanical failure". They got a different plane and 4 hours later we were able to take off from Indianapolis but missed our connecting flight to Italy!  We spent the night in Dallas and were on a direct flight to Rome the next afternoon.  It was a bummer missing out an entire day in Rome!

Almost there!

After going through a crazy long line in passport control and then causing our luggage to be taken and locked in baggage claim and a very frustrating maze to find the Uber pickup point outside the airport, our driver took us to our VRBO in Rome!  We went up 4 flights of stairs (no elevator in the building) with our heavy luggage to find our apartment for the next 4 nights. We rested and then found the meeting area for our Roman Forum and Colosseum tour in the afternoon.

'Roman Forum

Stone pine trees! They are very iconic and have been a symbol of Rome since the ancient times.

Beautiful views!  We are all pretty exhausted but taking in the sights of the city is so exciting.

The final part of the tour brought us to the Colosseum.

Areas that once held seating that are able to be accessed via various tunnels.  The tiers were separated by wealth and class.

It is the largest ancient amphitheater built.  It was completed in 80 AD and it truly is amazing it is still standing although ruined by earthquakes and people taking stone.  It was built for entertainment and could hold up to 80,000 spectators at certain parts of history.
