Although there was so much to do and see in Glacier, Jamie wanted to take advantage of being close to Idaho to visit to make his 49th state! Idaho is rugged, natural and just beautiful. Being in a new state, I wanted to do something to experience some of the views and do an activity that was memorable, so we road horses in the mountains. We were all very novice at horseback and the horses certainly had a lot of personality and needed much more control than I realized! We all had a great time!
This is Schweizter Mountain which is Idaho's largest resort just northwest of Sandpoint. It overlooks Lake Pend Oreille and is within 50 miles of the Canada border! It was undergoing a lot of construction while we were there but found a great restaurant and coffee area.
We got a few lessons on handling and off we went!
Lake Pend Oreille is Idaho's biggest lake and actually is the 5th deepest lake in the nation. (1,158 ft)
We took a break at the top and marveled at the views.
Selle, Boudreaux, Ro, Chickory and Jigs
It was quite an Idaho adventure. As we were descending back to the horse outdoor enclosure, Allie spotted a black bear on the trail! The horses could really sense it too and were very jittery and nervous the entire ride back.
The guide called my horse...one that rides like a fancy sports car by someone who is having a midlife crisis.
We had dinner back in Bonners Ferry and had the most delicious huckleberry shakes! YUM!
