301.365 {2017} Telluride and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

We fell in love with quaint Telluride and hope to be able to ski here one winter!

We had a nice breakfast and coffee at "Baked in Telluride".  We then walked around and did a little shopping

We ended up at their little town park where the girls had fun playing and meeting a little local toddler.    People are so friendly here and just love the low-key feel.

A magpie

We would have loved to stay a bit longer but back-tracked a bit to see the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
The Gunnison river has been forming the canyon for the last 2 million years cutting through the extremely hard rock.  A fun fact we learned that in 1 year, the river carves the thickness of a piece of paper!  The rock that you can see is about 1.8 billion years old and came to the surface of the earth about 65 million years ago during the time of the Gunnison Uplift.

You certainly getting a dizzying sense at the overlook!

Working hard to get the coveted Junior Range badge!  The girls earned 4 this trip!

Our Park Ranger was hilarious!  He insisted that he builds strong and smart junior rangers and so he made them all do pushups after the "swear-in"!

Unfortunately the fastest way to Durango was taking the "Million Dollar Highway".  There were certainly some white-knuckle turns but was just beautiful!  It is said to be one of the most dangerous roads in North America and if the day wasn't dry and sunny...there would be no way we would be attempting it!  It has the nickname from a few different stories...that there is a million dollars worth of precious ore underneath the road, that it took millions to build or our favorite...you couldn't pay me a million dollars to drive it in the ice and snow.
