92.365 {2017} Edinburgh

Our location was great and we could easily walk to the Old Town in minutes.  Around the corner was the cemetery of Greyfriars Kirkyard.  Many famous people from Edinburgh are buried here.  Greyfriars Bobby, the dog who stood watch by the grave of his master for years took place here and he is also buried in the cemetery as well.  The cafe where J.K. Rowling penned her Harry Potter series is close by and here you can find some of the inspiration of the book characters when you can find the graves of McGonagall and one of the most famous villains...Thomas Riddell.

There was some sort of processional that involved the Lord Provost of Edinburgh (the mayor) and others walking up the street.
We walked to the south on the Royal Mile to the Palace of the Holyroodhouse which is the official residence of the royal family in Scotland.
After touring the royal apartments and great gallery we walked through the ruins of Holyrood Abbey.
The abbey was founded in 1128 by King David I.  The ruins date from the 12th and 13th centuries.

It was an absolutely beautiful day!

Dessert and a cappuccino

After lunch we ventured to Holyrood Park and walked toward Arthur's Seat although we didn't make it all the way.  We did get gorgeous views!  This was the hunting grounds of the Scottish monarchs at one time.
