293.366 {2016} Goblin Valley State Park, Arches National Park

We took a detour off the highway to visit Goblin Valley State Park.  It is within the San Rafael Desert and north of the Henry Mountains.

The girls were amazed by the thousands of hoodoos and hoodoo rocks and many resembled mushrooms.

They had so much fun weaving in and out of the rock formations.  The rock is actually Entrada Sandstone that has eroded for millions of years.  The weather was in 70s but in the summer this desert and park reaches highs over 100 degrees.

Profiles of the many "goblins".  We saw a bit of grass and a lizard but not much lives in this remote and dry terrain.
We had lunch in the car and drove on to Arches.  It takes about 3 hours to drive between Capitol Reef and Arches without stopping.
We got there in the afternoon and decided to see a few things and hike a bit before sundown.

The main park road is very scenic.

We hiked the Windows Section which was really neat!

We hiked to the North and South Windows.

Double Arch

Although we didn't get to hike to the famed Delicate Arch we did take a trail to the Upper Viewpoint.
The Balanced Rock literally looked like it could topple any moment.  With the sun going down it was glowing orange.
