American Gothic and something that I love to see on long car trips.

You all know the iconic painting, "American Gothic" by Grant Wood?

We pass by Eldon, Iowa on our way to Moravia, and this time we decided to make a quick detour through that particular crumbling, southern Iowa town to see the actual house that was depicted in that famous painting. This particular style is "Carpenter Gothic" and the models never actually stood in front of the house as the painting was done in stages.

Sleeping children make our trips just a little easier...that and a little help from Dora.

The original painting is actually on loan to the art center just down the street and I haven't gotten over there to see it yet. Shame on me. I love his work and the regionalist style in general.
