Even when the weather was not optimal, spring was blooming in Chicago! The tulips didn't mind that it was 47 and raining! Many of the flowering trees hadn't blossomed, but many were leafing out. We are only 2 1/2 hours south and are at least 2 weeks ahead in the season.
Michigan avenue exploring
We loved how the fog enveloped the city...it was a quiet morning walking along the Magnificent Mile.
The girls love to come here. We went early in the day after a breakfast and a coffee for me at Starbucks. We definitely beat the crowds.
The girls and Lea, the girl of the year.
Another day of clouds called for another fun museum, this time the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Lincoln Park.
There were many snakes, turtles, salamanders and fish to see and explore.
Our favorite thing to do was the Judy Istock butterfly haven.
Zebra Longwing
Tiger Longwing
Shaft-tail Finch
Blue and White Longing

Tiger Longwing
Allie kept thinking she was being attacked by the Common Morpho
Black Swallowtail
Atlas Moth
This Common Morpho landed right on my camera and was very interested in probing the red ring of my lens!!! He has good taste in quality camera glass too!
The girls loved being part of a newscast in front of the green screen.
We walked around a bit and stumbled upon this National Historic Landmark. I bet this park will be gorgeous with spring blooms in a week or two!
Dylan's Candy Bar was near our hotel and after getting some delicious deep dish pan Chicago style pizza the girls got to pick out some candy.
The amount of candy to choose from was very overwhelming!
But, the girls found some favorites and some new ones to try!
We traveled back home after a great and eventful weekend in Chicago. Daddy had to work but we found plenty to do and keep us busy!
