Germany

Allie and Phoebe were using Germany as a stop over on their way to Kazakstan and I was able to come for the week and see our dear friends who are like family in Tübingen!

Rosi and Helmut are the absolute best host and hostess!

The best part is when we are able to see the entire family for fun, games and drinks. We made späetzle and salad.

A peek of the Rathaus

The Marktplatz is alive with people at almost all times of the day. From the bustling markets in the morning to the nightlife of drinks conversing with friends in the evening. The Rathaus (Town Hall) was built in 1435 and the astronomical clock dates to 1511.

The Altstadt is just so charming with its half timbered houses, cobblestones and meandering lanes.

Steffi surprised us with concert tickets! It was featuring the music of Jean-Philippe Rameau juxtaposed with music by ABBA. It was an open air concert in the castle courtyard and so entertaining!

Rottenburg

An iced latte to combat the 100 degree days in Germany!

I was honored to be able to see Rosi in her element teaching the refugees in a class offered to help them gain skills in language and their future employment. She is so talented and passionate at what she does!

I joined her for the morning and then explored Rottenburg for a bit before taking the train back to Tübingen.

Eís is a good idea…all the time

One of our favorite activities is taking the punt (Stockerkahn) for a sunset ride down the Neckar!

I guess the punt is way more fun with Helmut at the helm! It takes a lot of strength!

I spent some time with Helmut exploring a bit of Tü. He always has such great historical knowledge and tidbits of this town.

In the Stiftskirche. It was built in 1470 by Peter von Koblenz.

Down in the garden at Rappstrasse 5. The stairs you see to the right led up to our flat where we lived for a year in 2007-2008.

The university and schools were out for the summer and so there were many kids and young adults enjoying the summer nights.

We went out for dinner at a Maultaschen restaurant.

We spent a lovely morning by the Bodensee in the town of Lindau. It was beautiful with the buildings, waterfront and streets. I could definitely come back here and stay for longer!

The holiday haus!

Just a few hours south of Tübingen, is the holiday haus that has been in Ross’s family for many years. There is a beautiful lake, cows in the fields, and so much quiet. It was such a fun experience to see this special place.

It is a camper that is attached to an outdoor building.

Rosi surprised us by taking us from the airport to Münich! Her granddaughter, Lilli is going to college there and we were so excited to see her.

A 18th century Late Baroque and Roccoco chapel.

Frauenkirche

Built between 1468 and 1488. It was heavily bombed in 1945 but has been restored to a much simpler renovation.

The Viktualienmarkt is a huge open air market where you can find home-made goods, trinkets, fresh brot and bretzl, food and bier, flowers and produce.
